Human Trafficking - (Blog)
- End the Misery, Stop Human
Trafficking
Introduction
Human
trafficking is one type of trade of humans done with the motive of forced
labor, slavery, organ harvesting, domestic violence, sexual exploitation, etc.
Human Trafficking is considered as a crime because it violates the rights of
the person guaranteed by the Constitution of India. Article 23(1) of the
Constitution prohibits trafficking in human beings or persons. Similarly, there
are various others laws according to which Human trafficking in respect of
sexual exploitation or child trafficking has been prevented i.e. The Immoral
Traffic (Prevention) Act, 1956, Criminal Law (amendment) Act 2013, Protection
of Children from Sexual offences Act, 2012, Transplantation of Humans Organs
Act, 1994, etc. According to a report by the National Humans Rights Commission
of India, around 40000 children are abducted every year and around thousands of
women and child are exported every year to other country’s as a part of sex
trade.
Reasons and
issue
People might
think the reasons behind trafficking are lack of education, job opportunity,
poverty, immigration policy, etc. and I agree to this but on the same way why
don’t we think that there can be a big motive for doing this? Women’s are
working as prostitutes for their livelihood, children are compelled to beg,
etc. though it is illegal according to our law but again it is being supported
by the very powerful people of our country. There are companies who are doing
this job in the name of another and earning profit by inducing the poor or
needy women and children by promising them that they will live a happy life. Human
organs are being traded why because they are illiterate? No, its because of our
lacking awareness. There are only few cases related to human trafficking
officially just because there is a trafficker scheming to exploit the
vulnerable and conceal the crime.
No doubt on our
Criminal Justice System, they know how to prevent people from this heinous
crime but police, prosecutors of a good will cannot send traffickers to jail if
they are never equipped with the skills to do so.
Conclusion
Increasing cases
of human trafficking is an alarming social issue which is arising with the
increase in the difference of standards of living between different class of
people or between different countries. Although laws are made for the
protection of human rights but it is sad to say that it is not properly taken
into account. It is the duty of the government to look into the matter of such
a heinous crime rather than ignoring it, because law is equal for all and
nobody is above the law. Government should try to reduce the percentage of
poverty by increasing the employment rate so that nobody would be left
unemployed and earn their livelihood. On
the other hand, it is not only the duty of the government, but it is the duty
of each and every person of our country to raise their voice against any crime
irrespective of the nature of the crime. It is shame on all of us that we are
unaware rather ignoring such a kind of crime which are destroying our peaceful
life and environment of society.
