INTRODUCTION: -
Cyber stalking
is one of the most predominant social evil in the world of internet. Basically,
people from various countries are to be found victims of cyber criminals.
Throughout my article I would be guiding you on what is cyberstalking and what
will be the victim`s capacity and responsibility in that notion.
Also, I ll be briefing on what maybe the types of people who indulge in these crimes and some facts proved in some of the reports and surveys.
THE
BEGINNING OF STALKING: -
The Crime always
begins with a stranger following you through fake ID on social media platform.
As we can observe the virtual contact lacks physical medium, which mainly
attracts the criminals to commit those unfriendly activities through this
medium.
According to, various mental health research and analysis a stalker`s behavior is obsessive and irrational in nature which in medical nomenclature often termed as “Obsessive Relational Intrusion (ORI)”.
‘ORI’ is defined medically as repeated and unwanted pursuit and invasion of one`s sense of physical or symbolic privacy by another being a stranger or acquaintance who may desire an intimate relationship with that person.
ANALYSIS AND SURVEY OF CRIME RATE EFFECTS:
-
Most stereotype
analogy is that these stalking or harassment only affects the rich and famous.
Which indeed is a mindset of people and society. Though, we may read the news
and understand that those creamy layers being attacked, on the other hand there
are class of people being at the same risk of being a victim of that crime.
According to a study conducted by Pew Research Center (U.S) 18% of those been
surveyed are said to have seen someone being stalked and 8% reported that they
were stalked.
By a huge research pieces being constantly observed, that the target group of this being women aged 18-24 who have experienced disproportionately high no. of incidents with a percentage rates being 26% - cyberstalked and 25% - sexually harassed.
Mcfalane & Bocji (2003) developed a significant topology of cyberstalking based on their interviews with 24 victims from various nationalities. The following were the 3 groups of topologies: -
1. Vindictive Cyberstalker: -
These have known to be the most violent and have been noted to affect their victims offline. Their computer literacy was high and often known to bizarre comments and intimidating multimedia messages. They are also said to have serious mental illness.
2. Composed Cyberstalker: -
They do not seek to have relationship with their victims. Their only target was to cause huge amount of distress and constant annoyance and irritation to their victims. Also, to have medium -high knowledge of computer skills.
3. Intimate Cyberstalker: -
Basically, this topology has been merged with two sub-groups Ex intimates and Infatuates. Where here the Ex intimates are the victim`s ex partners or acquaintance and infatuates on the other hand are looking for intimate relationship with their victims.
They tend to have high range usage of computer knowledge like utilizing emails, chat groups etc. for getting a demonstrated knowledge of their victims.
With a Note,
“Stalkers target to ruin you in a way to accomplish their fantasy and you
instead of fearing bring on the tool to make him the victim of his own crime.”
