“An Critical Approach Towards Cruelty On Animals” - (Blog)

“Humanity's true moral test, its fundamental test…consists of its attitude towards those who are at its mercy: animals.”

 ― Milan Kundera

India being one of a very sentimental and cultured Country, we proudly find animals as a very active part of environment; let it be domestic or wildlife. This makes it a need to protect and nurture them as humans and make it a need to have laws protecting them. As enshrined in the Indian Constitution, Article 51(G) states as “It shall be the duty of every citizen of India to protect and improve the natural environment including forests, lakes, rivers and wild life, and to have compassion for living creature”.

Some as a sign of humanity love and care animals as their own, but there are two other scenarios where few who have certain fear of animals stay away and some others who get pleasure by giving pain to such irrational beings. To protect from such people or natural ignorance which cause pain, there’s pertaining law that cover the welfare and protection of wildlife. It’s brought into picture some such disturbing news like- from state of Kerala, of a pregnant Elephant who lost her life by not being aware of eating an explosive. Now this incident was not something that someone had planned for it to occur, but a mere protection to safeguarding the farming land from crop-raiding wild animals. In another instance, it was found where goats were transported for slaughter in a cruel manner in the State of Uttar Pradesh. One more instance can be remembered about ‘jallikattu’ where for entertainment purpose bulls were harassed or tortured, in other words there are several instances where animals are being ill treated or facing cruelty.

Now these disturbing updates of animal abuses are not to be ignored, but to be put in limelight. It is not easy to eradicate at once every incident, but we can achieve it in future path. Some measures that we can consider would be amending the wildlife statute and making further notice on strict actions on harming the animals either wildlife or domestic in nature. Now to a layman this is easy but only a legal person or law making person knows that it’s to find a needle in a haystack. Also, the forest department has to make the public staying nearby areas of the forest to be aware of fact that their ignorance can cause pain and those who cause pain for no reason shall be penalized as these innocent beings also have a right to live peacefully as a law abiding citizen.

It will be early now to think how this is all going to affect out nature truly if we keep on neglecting the topic of how daily animals are abused in the same living space where we exist. When we call it ‘Mother Earth’, even being irrational, these innocent creatures are also dependant of the same ‘Mother Earth’.
